Welcome back to the “Life at SAPI” series! We’re excited to continue sharing the experiences of our amazing team members, who bring their unique perspectives and skills to help drive our company’s success.
In this edition, we’re thrilled to feature Richard Hayes, our Talent Partner at SAPI. Get ready to gain a deeper understanding of Rich’s workday at SAPI and learn more about his life at SAPI.
My name is Richard Hayes, and I’m the Talent Partner here at SAPI. I am responsible for all things hiring and prospecting future talent for SAPI. I have been operating cross-functionally across the business over the past 5 months, covering talent requirements for Engineering, Product, HR, and Sales.
A day in my life as a Talent Partner at SAPI is ever-changing. My workday starts around 9:30 AM, although the beauty of my role is the flexibility it offers. As a van lifer in the UK, my office is wherever I park my van. I begin by organising my day, crafting a to-do list, and delving into LinkedIn InMail to attend to candidate inquiries. Mornings are usually reserved for operational tasks, interview coordination, and updating our applicant tracking system.
Once the morning activities are all addressed, I dedicate my late morning and afternoon to conduct candidate calls, ensuring I have ample time for feedback collation and coordinating next-stage interviews. Besides candidate interactions, I liaise with department heads, ensuring they are well-informed about upcoming interviews and updating candidate pipelines. Despite my focus being on talent, I collaborate with various departments, solving the puzzle of sourcing top talent, and let’s not get started on calendar Tetris!
Managing my time involves meticulous planning. I prioritise tasks based on urgency and impact, ensuring that critical matters are addressed promptly. It’s a balance of being proactive and reactive, staying ahead of deadlines while being flexible to adapt to unexpected challenges. This approach ensures that I can handle the diverse responsibilities that come with being a Talent Partner at SAPI.
Working at SAPI has opened the door to opportunity and knowledge sharing I have not witnessed before. The global reach of our operations allows me to connect with colleagues from six continents, making every day exciting and diverse. What makes me proud to work at SAPI is our commitment to innovation and collaboration. The company’s dynamic atmosphere fosters personal and professional growth. Since joining, I’ve witnessed both my skills and confidence soar, providing a unique experience unlike any other workplace I’ve been a part of.
To thrive in the world of talent acquisition, communication skills are paramount. The ability to connect with people, understand their aspirations, and match them with the right roles is essential. Adaptability is key too, given the ever-changing nature of the talent landscape right now; one must embrace change and stay updated with industry trends.
For anyone aspiring to work in this field, my advice is simple: be curious. Dive deep into understanding people, their skills, and the industry you’re recruiting for. Never stop learning; it’s a continuous journey.
What I enjoy most about my job is the people aspect; being a people person at my core, I love this element of the job the most. Every candidate brings a unique story and set of skills. Helping them find a role where they can flourish is incredibly rewarding. My advice to a new colleague would be to immerse yourself in the company culture, understand how the business works as a whole, and how all the dots connect. Build long-lasting relationships with your team; I’ve been very grateful to build some incredible relationships that have flourished into lifelong friendships.
My journey as a Talent Partner at SAPI is an ever-evolving adventure, filled with challenges, growth, and the joy of connecting exceptional talents with opportunities that can transform lives. Working in a company that values innovation, collaboration, and the potential of its employees makes every day a new opportunity to make a difference.
